What is Cricut Expression?
The Cricut Expression is a personal electronic cutter designed and manufactured by Provo Craft. It is an extremely versatile machine used to cut designs and alphabets for scrapbooking, paper crafting, card making, home décor and a lot more.
Larger than other Cricut machines, it uses 12″ x 24″ mat or the 12″ x 12″ mat.
How does it work?
Since the Cricut Expression (same with other Cricut machines) is a cartridge-based system, you will need cartridges to cut. The beauty of that is you don’t need to hook it up in a computer to be able to cut designs.
Once you have the fonts or designs you want in the cartridge, just attach the cartridge to the machine and you’re ready to cut. It’s perfect when you want something done quickly.
Previously, Cricut owners who prefer to cut their own designs used the “Sure Cuts a Lot” (SCAL) and “Make the Cut” (MTC) software to design, however Provo Craft (the manufacturer of Cricut) filed a lawsuit to these companies so they no longer support Cricut machines. Cricut machine owners who have SCAL and MTC may still be able to use them as long as they don’t update the machine’s firmware.
The good news is, Cricut has DesignStudio software which lets you design projects virtually – all cartridge designs are available to use, although you will need to have the actual cartridge to cut. It is bit pricey, though, costing nearly $60.
